Development Manager

The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to increase Forest Landowners Association (FLA) membership, engagement in grassroots activities and support CEO in fund raising efforts.

This position entails working with the CEO to ensure that the goals of the FLA as set out by the Board of Directors are being met and exceeded.  In doing so, this person will set appropriate work priorities; apply knowledge of organizational needs and deadlines, and consistently follow-up with both the staff and FLA volunteers.

The position will be a contract position with monthly compensation and performance bonuses.  All travel related expenses will be covered.  Candidates do not need to live in the Metro-Atlanta area to be considered.


Assist with the development and implementation of the membership goals for the Association. 

  • Demonstrate measurable growth in both membership and member involvement in the association
  • Coordinate membership efforts of the volunteer leadership by offering staff support via attending local development and recruitment visits, presentations, etc.
  • Organizing support of regional landowner meetings
  • Support Regional membership efforts through conference calls, materials, securing funding, and logistical planning.

Sponsorship/Corporate Development

  • Seek opportunities to increase sponsorship of the annual meeting, FLA publications and overall general corporate support of the organization
  • Coordinate efforts with staff on soliciting new and existing sponsors and exhibitors at the annual conference and FLA communication outlets.

PAC/Legal Defense Fund/Governmental Affairs

  • Prepare fund raising solicitations
  • Develop and support major donors programs and correspondence
  • Assist in developing local fund raising events including dinners, sporting events, meet your congressman events etc.


  • Assist the CEO as necessary on related activities.
  • Serve as FLA representative at selected meetings and conventions.
  • Attend official FLA meetings.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with other persons at various levels of responsibility
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to follow-through on complex, planned activities
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with members, donors, staff and the public
  • Well organized, able to work on own initiative, and capable of making sound decisions
  • Able to work with limited supervision
  • Willing to travel
  • Excellent computer skills in basic word processing, spreadsheet and communications software


  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications, Forestry/Natural Resources or closely related discipline
  • Five or more years serving as a development assistant in a development/foundation office setting, or having served as a development specialist in a not-for-profit organization
  • Superior written communication and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of policy development and implementation related to forestry and natural resource issues.
